Who maintains Drive Cost Tools
Drive Cost Tools is independently maintained in Canada by a software developer and Canadian driver. The site is not a leasing company, dealership, lender, insurer, or tax adviser. Its role is to make user-entered figures easier to compare without presenting estimates as quotes or professional advice.
Our calculation principles
- User-entered contract values are kept distinct from estimates.
- Formulas are shown in plain language wherever practical.
- Province-, contract-, and lessor-specific rules are not invented.
- Useful depth matters more than publishing many thin pages.
- Calculations run in the browser and do not require an account.
How calculators are developed and checked
Calculation logic is kept separate from the page interface and is tested with representative values, zero-value cases, invalid inputs, and boundary conditions. Each calculator shows the main formula in plain language so the result can be checked against a contract, written quote, odometer reading, or fuel receipt.
When a rule depends on a province, lessor, dealer, or individual contract, the calculator asks for a confirmed amount rather than choosing one silently. Material content or formula changes are reviewed before publication, and corrections can be submitted through the contact page.
How the site is supported
The site may be supported by clearly labelled advertising. Ads will not be allowed to obstruct calculator inputs or masquerade as results. Affiliate or referral relationships may be considered later and would be disclosed where relevant.
